251 submissions from 248 organizations told the European Commission what they think about this file. Here is what each of them said, in their own words.
The Commission received 384 submissions on this file. Shown here: the 251 from organizations. Not shown: 41 from private individuals. Their submissions are personal data; the Commission publishes them under its own legal basis, and republishing them by name here would need one we do not have. Organizations act in a public capacity, so their positions are public record. Also not shown: 92 further submissions we do not publish for other reasons: no quotable text (a comment under 250 characters and no readable paper), no organization named, or a private person who filed under their own name. Currently, more than 80% of children treated for cancer are survivors. There is clearly a lack of structure dedicated to this population, due to a lack of means. However, as PanCare members say : It's not over when it's over. Apart from the well-known medical problems, these former patients present psychological, social and school problems, which are insufficiently cared for.
I would like to make sure that paediatric haemato-oncology is not overlooked in the EU agenda - in particular since out of the current roadmap’s 2300 words, “children” is cited only 3 times, mostly without stating the intention to focus on their specific problems, and the word “paediatric” only once.

My son received two indeterminate minimal Residual disease findings early in his treatment which was not changed because his doctors did not know how to interpret these findings. He subsequently relapsed.
Uneven access to preventive measures, treatment and care The arsenal of anticancer therapies is only as good as the deployment of it. In the age where Germany is looking to hire nurses from Mexico, UK has 42,000 nursing and 10,000 medical vacancies– the challenge is how to achieve better access with increasingly scarce resources.Technological Innovation to improve efficiencies, reduce wastage and increase the…
I am surprised to see that one Cancer Plan: Refers to addressing the disease and not to the patient. This is not cancer but the patient with cancer. — There is no plan for medication errors, despite the high risk involved in the medication and the condition of the patient (especially in children with a need for dose adjustments).

Preventing exposure to carcinogenic hazardous drugs Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan for Europe has to consider the potential benefits for workers, the healthcare system, patients and their families, by what has already identified as a preventive instrument in the roadmap, namely further legislative measures to reduce exposure to carcinogenic substances in the workplace.
When we talk about Patients and survivors who suffer stigma and discrimination, I believe that we cannot ignore in this double sentence' that the public administrations themselves discriminate against us when, despite having been diagnosed and being in treatment for a chronic cancer, they deny us access to disability pensions.

The action plan of the European Commission is not only timely, but also much needed. So the Commission should be congratulated. Unfortunately, though, the specific needs of children with cancer are (as usual) not specifically stressed and no/few specific action points are highlighted to address the most common cause of death by disease in children and adolescents in a more effective way.

Funding for biomedical research to cancer is adequate in many EU countries. Some might even argue that too much funding is going to biomedical cancer research in comparison to other medical areas with needs (geriatry, psychiatry, ...) . However, fighting cancer in society requires much more than just biomedical research, which is often limited to finding a cure or a drug for patients that suffer from cancer.

Therapeutic activity: For a new care model In both the Member States and the European recommendations, the link between the city and the hospital is often very poorly ensured and there is very little coordination between all the actors who can be involved in the care of patients in the context of complementary therapeutic proposals.

I miss a mention (inside the "knowledge" section, maybe) focused on fighting agains fake news in cancer. There are lots of fake med proposals and cuacks trying to convince patients to try their frauds. Method. Every quote is verbatim from the organization’s own submission to the European Commission, trimmed to its opening passage and never summarized by a model. Where a submission was filed in another EU language we show the English text the European Commission publishes alongside it, labeled on the quote; the original is one click away at the source. Groupings use the respondent type the organization itself selected when filing. We deliberately do not label anyone “supportive” or “opposed”. You read what they wrote and draw your own conclusion.
