Fit-for-55 – Renewable Energy Directive November 2021 Eurogas welcomes the higher ambition of the European Commission in its proposed of revision of the Renewable Energy Directive. Nevertheless, this ambition is not enough, nor properly translated for gaseous fuels. There is no dedicated driver that would focus on the decarbonisation of gaseous energy.

Eurogas welcomes the European Commission’s inception impact assessment on the Revision of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. All options will be needed to reach sustainability objectives in a way that ensures the scale needed to decarbonise EU’s economy.

Eurogas welcomes the opportunity to provide input on the inception impact assessment for the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. Within the broader context of the Renovation Wave, heating and cooling is central to our daily lives and comfort and pivotal for achieving the climate neutrality target. Given the size of the challenge, all options should be considered.

03 June 2026 Eurogas Position on the Revised European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) Eurogas welcomes the efforts by EFRAG and the European Commission to simplify the ESRS. The revised standards are overall clearer and better structured, with some improvements.

Eurogas welcomes the European Commissions (EC) ambition to deploy a harmonised EU certification system to ensure the role of carbon removals solutions, both nature-based and technology-based, necessary to contribute to achieving the EU climate targets. Eurogas firmly believes that the Regulation on the certification of carbon removals (the Regulation) should provide legal and financial certainty to the industry.

Eurogas is the association representing the gaseous energy sector in Europe, including renewable and low-carbon gases such as biomethane and hydrogen. Our members include fuel suppliers, OEMs and technology providers active in the transport sector. We very much welcome the opportunity to provide feedback on the call for evidence for the Clean Corporate Vehicles initiative.

The success of the energy transition requires a cost-effective decarbonisation pathway. To achieve this, the Energy Efficiency Directive must enable the identification and delivery of energy efficiency across the entire energy value chain. Eurogas is firmly committed to ensuring an energy transition that is both cost-effective and just.

A. Eurogas welcomes the commitment of the European Commission to align where necessary the Energy Taxation Directive to the objectives of the EU Green Deal, EU’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and market developments. Eurogas supports increased 2030 GHG reduction targets and considers natural, renewable and decarbonised gas integral to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Eurogas supports the Commissions efforts to ensure accessible and efficient customer service for all consumers, including vulnerable groups and small businesses. In this regard, we consider that any new provision should remain proportionate and should avoid duplication of existing obligations. Eurogas welcomes the Commissions proposal to review the Weights and Dimensions Directive (WDD), which sets out the maximum weights and dimensions for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) to circulate on EU roads. This Directive aims at improving the environmental performance of such vehicles while ensuring fair competition among road transport operators.

Eurogas welcomes the European Commissions (EC) ambition to increase the European Unions (EU) manufacturing capacity of net-zero technologies. This will help to meet the EU climate targets, ensure EU access to a secure and sustainable supply of those technologies, safeguard EU energy system resilience and contribute to quality job creation.

Eurogas is committed to achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement. We support the EU’s aim to reach climate neutrality by 2050 and the intermediary target of reducing GHG emissions by at least 55% by 2030. The speed with which change must happen to meet these objectives requires policy makers to take decisive action and acknowledge the role of the gas sector in achieving these goals.

Eurogas welcomes the European Commissions initiative to develop a European Grids Package. Achieving the EUs 2030 and 2050 climate and energy targets, while safeguarding affordability and security of supply, requires a fully integrated infrastructure strategy one that brings together electricity, renewable and low-carbon gases, as well as CO capture, transport, utilisation, and storage.

Eurogas Heating Strategy Policy Recommendations Policy Recommendations: 1. Review Art.11 and Art.17(15) of the EPBD and ensure a fair treatment of all energy sources with due respect to the principle of technological neutrality. As the EU is decarbonising its electricity delivered over the grid, so is the gas sector, and for this very reason, the latter shall not be discriminated.

The TEN-E regulation represents a pivotal instrument to complete the internal market for gas and to provide secure, affordable and sustainable energy to consumers, together with its offshoots such as the PCI or CEF. The TEN-E has helped improve market integration thereby bringing lower spreads in Europe.

We believe that a clear pathway and a supportive regulatory framework can help address the issue of methane emissions more comprehensively across Europe. Eurogas and its members support a decarbonisation pathway towards 2050 which provides cost-effective solutions to reduce GHG emissions across sectors.

In response to the European Commission's call for evidence regarding Renewable Acceleration Areas, Eurogas appreciates the opportunity to provide feedback following the recent adoption of the RED III. However, we express concern regarding the limited focus of the consultation, which appears to exclusively address wind and solar power.

Eurogas and NGVA Europe are committed to the decarbonisation of the transport sector, notably through the increasing role of gaseous fuels, including biomethane (bioCNG/bioLNG) as sustainable and immediately available fuels with lower GHG footprints.

Eurogas welcomes the proposal for a Just Transition Fund. It is crucial to address the social impacts of the transition to a carbon-neutral economy and to bring all the citizens on board. Accompanying the transition with the support of people, SMEs and larger undertakings, emerges as crucial for the overall EU’s cohesion.

Our members are active throughout the entire gas value chain, covering production, trading, distribution, and supply of natural gas, biomethane and hydrogen. Eurogas recognises that the current market dynamics emerging from the geopolitical situation requires particular attention.

Eurogas would like to welcome the roadmap looking at establishing a European Metrology Partnership in the context of Horizon Europe and the possibility to provide input at this early stage. The document notes the importance of metrology as “the science and traceability of measurements, is crucial for today’s high-tech world. Metrology plays a part in every aspect of life.
