Knauf Insulation welcomes the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) and its objective of strengthening Europes industrial base, reinforcing resilience, and enhancing long-term competitiveness in support of the green transition.
We welcome the European Commissions Affordable Housing Act as a timely step to address Europes housing shortage and rising living costs, and we urge that affordability and building decarbonisation be pursued together to alleviate energy poverty and strengthen social cohesion.
The EUs Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and Construction Products Regulation (CPR) set a clear path toward a climate-neutral building stock and decarbonised construction products by 2050, while also addressing housing affordability. The construction sector is pivotal for delivering safe, sustainable and affordable homes and is central to EU competitiveness.
As the EU looks to the next decade, energy efficiency must remain a central pillar of its energy and climate strategydelivering immediate energy savings, cutting import dependence, lowering costs for consumers and businesses, and underpinning EU competitiveness and resilience.
Knauf Insulation supports EIIF position: A. Political context The EiiF study estimates an annual technical insulation energy savings potential in European industry of 160 TWhequivalent to the annual energy consumption of 10 million EU households and with the potential to reduce 40 Mt CO-eq. emissions, based on upgrading insulation performance to EN 17956 Energy Efficiency Class C.
Despite the availability of cost-effective solutions, substantial energy efficiency potential in industry remains untapped. A key reason is a structural gap: Unlike in the building sector, there are no minimum energy performance requirements for industrial insulation. This is not a technology issueit is a policy opportunity to unlock existing, cost-effective savings.
