ITRE draft report on TEN-E revision: European Solar Energy Association calls for grid priority to unlock solar deployment

Rapporteur Tsvetelina Penkova (S&D) presented the draft report on the revision of the Trans-European Energy Infrastructure (TEN-E) regulation in the ITRE committee ^[1]. This proposal amends key electricity market regulations and repeals the current TEN-E framework ^[2]. For solar energy, grid infrastructure is the single biggest bottleneck to deployment. …

Key messages

Grid infrastructure is the single biggest bottleneck for solar deployment in Europe.
The TEN-E revision must prioritize electricity grid reinforcement and storage projects.
We call for at least 50% of PCI status to be allocated to grid and storage projects.
Permitting timelines for grid connections must be capped at 18 months.
ITRE members must act now to align the TEN-E regulation with the EU's 2030 renewable energy targets.
