The Climate and Industrial Deal (CID) sets a new course for EU climate and energy policies, aiming to equip the EU to meet its climate goals while maintaining a competitive industrial base.

We recognise that there are many challenges on the road to meet this objective as the energy transition will require significant investments, new technologies, effective policies and behavioural changes.

IOGP Europe welcomes the review of the Climate and Environmental Delegated Acts. We support the Commissions objective to simplify the EU Taxonomy in line with the Competitiveness Compass and the Omnibus I simplification package, and we provide evidence focused on improving clarity, legal certainty and proportionality.

IOGP Europe welcomes the proposed Hydrogen and Decarbonised Gas Market package as a necessary framework to decarbonise the gas sector by accommodating renewable and low-carbon gases under the gas market rules while safeguarding the achievements of the Internal Gas Market.

IOGP Europe supports the European Commissions overall goal of regulating the transition through a structured and detailed EU reporting framework and is incessantly working to comply with all the requirements and obligations arising from it.

IOGP supports the development of an EU-wide regulation addressing methane emissions aimed at contributing to the climate neutrality by 2050. We agree with the European Commission’s objective to improve the accuracy of information about sources of methane emissions and to seek to reduce emissions.

IOGP supports the development of standards, guidelines and, where appropriate, cost-effective and efficient regulation reducing methane emissions along the full energy (gas and oil, coal and biogas/biomethane) chains. We welcome the holistic approach, covering not only the energy sector, but also agriculture and waste.

At the same time, we believe that achieving these objectives should be balanced with realistic deadlines that reflect operational constraints and ensure that compliance remains achievable for all market participants.
