The City of Stockholm’s feedback to the EU consultation on the 2030 Policy Programme “Path to the Digital Decade”: The City of Stockholm’s vision for 2040 states that Stockholm is the most connected city in the world and one of the cities in the world that has made the best use of digitalisation.

The Commission has proposed an ambitious programme, Path to the Digital Decade, to boost the digitalisation development throughout the EU. Technology Industries of Finland finds the four-pronged approach of the Compass in principle balanced and well-founded. GENERAL The Compass is missing a few essential themes, and we urge the Commission to include targets for data economy development and soft infrastructures.

In its ‘2030 Digital Compass’ Communication in March 2021 and policy programme in September 2021, the Commission set out digital targets to achieve the next decade. The Confederation of Finnish Industries EK supports the Commission’s initiative. The Commission’s Digital Decade proposal setting up a governance framework to ensure Europe reached its 2030 Digital Decade objectives is welcomed.

The Federation of Finnish Enterprises supports the Commission’s initiative to lay out clear targets for the EU’s digital decade and to establish a robust monitoring and cooperation mechanism to ensure progress towards these goals in all Member States. It is also welcome the Programme is adopted as a binding decision by the Parliament and the Council, as this highlights the importance of the undertaking.

We welcome the proposed Roadmap for the Digital Compass Policy Program. We agree that coordination between different actors, and between the European Union and its Member States, is key to the success of the European Digital Decade. Having said that, we believe that a stronger presence of the civil society and the non-profit sector is needed for the program to succeed.

Free Knowledge Advocacy Group EU looks into the provisions of the Digital Compass Policy Programme with interest. As the Digital Decade process is moving to its next stages, CSC wants to reiterate the importance of the green and human-centric approach that is quite prominent in the roadmap for the Digital Compass communication published in February.
