The second European lottery, the Française des Jeux (FDJ), wishes to point out that, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, and in accordance with the settled case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, it is for the authorities of each Member State to agree on the applicable law and prosecution in relation to gambling.

The Swedish Consumer Agency welcomes a targeted revision of Regulation (EU) 2017/2394 on consumer protection cooperation (CPC Regulation). Overall the Regulation provides for a solid legal basis for effective cross-border consumer protection cooperation.
Ecommerce Europe welcomes the opportunity to provide additional input for the Commissions evaluation process on the Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Regulation (EU) 2017/239. We appreciate the CPC Regulation as it stimulates competent national authorities to cooperate on consumer protection actions and the enforcement of EU consumer law, especially in cross-border cases.
The Commission is assessing whether the report on the application of the CPC Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2017/2394) to be submitted by January 2023 pursuant to Article 40 of the CPC Regulation requires a legislative proposal to further strengthen the enforcement of consumer protection in the cross-border area. The Zentralverband der deutschen Werbewirtschaft e.V. (ZAW) opposes such a legislative proposal.

The citizens’ association Elektrosmog and Health welcomes this initiative because, in our view, it is important to educate customers on the safe use of modern technologies, especially wireless devices. The proposed law should address the following problems: Problem 1: People already need to be informed about the health threats of radio-frequency radiation when purchasing any device with a wireless function.

The digitalisation of consumer markets requires close European cooperation to protect consumers in a fair way. It must be strong with deterrent effects against digital abuse. Care must also be taken to ensure its simplicity so that it can be effective, as complexity makes it less effective. However, effective consumer protection requires prior informed use of online sites.

Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to respond to the invitation to provide an opinion on the impact assessment on consumer protection. The level of consumer protection in the Union is already extremely high. Further burdens on the economy are strongly rejected; this is particularly important in view of the current extraordinary challenges faced by businesses.
