ELIXIR welcomes the European Commissions consultation on the ERA Act and strongly supports the ambition to strengthen Europes research and innovation (R&I) landscape. As a distributed European Research Infrastructure, ELIXIR coordinates around 600 life science resources - data, tools, standards, training and compute - across 21 Member countries, three Observer countries and EMBL-EBI.
Molecular approaches such as metagenomics, metabarcoding and eDNA (environmental DNA) are increasingly being used for biodiversity monitoring due to efficiencies in sample collection, processing and the capability to identify and monitor taxa or functional biological markers that are otherwise very difficult to assess.
