Please find attached our suggestions for the recognition and inclusion of independent retail in the right to stay strategy. Independent Retail Europe is the European trade associations that represents the interests of the independent retail sector. Independent retailers play an important role in the liveability of rural areas and therewith make an important contribution to the right to stay.

Residents of the North Netherlands are rightly proud of their villages and cities, the landscape, regional connectedness and identity. Residents like living, living, doing business and working there. At the same time, there are major challenges. The vitality and housing market are under pressure from young people leaving and the disappearance of utilities and public transport; especially in rural areas.

Independent Retail Europe welcomes the proposal on a Directive for common rules on repair and reuse. Indeed, since consumers are more and more eager to consume in more sustainable ways, retailers see new business opportunities in providing repair services. Independent retailers are aware of their linking role between manufacturers and consumers by giving valuable customer advice.
