Leveraging public procurement is among the EUs strongest tools to drive capital investment toward sustainability, reward innovators, and gather valuable data.
ACR+ welcomes the European Commissions revision of public procurement directives as a crucial opportunity to unlock the full potential of public procurement as a strategic tool for achieving the EU climate and environmental objectives.
As identified by the Clean Industrial Deal, public procurement is a tool to support EU competitiveness and decarbonisation simultaneously. Furthermore, public procurement is a key lever to boost Europes circular economy, a strategic goal. However, as found by the 2025 evaluation report, its potential is underused.
The ultimate goal of the Single Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) is to prevent and reduce plastic pollution on the environment and to promote the transition to a circular economy. The SUPD targets a sub-group of single-use plastic (SUP) products which are often poorly managed and high-impact on the environment.
ACR+ welcomes efforts by the European Commission to ensure consistency among the calculation of recycling targets and supports any measures to improve the reliability of recycling rates across Europe, so that waste management is truly aligned with circular economy principles. Supporting the identification of effective policies and good practices is an important step toward high quality recycling.
