Since adoption of the strategy, Slovakia has made no progress on LGBTIQ+ rights. On the contrary - an advocacy group we note regress and radicalization of politics and state governance targeting LGBTIQ+ people and increasingly transgender people.

For some years, feminists have been fighting internationally against self-ID legislation. Fears are confirmed in countries that have already introduced this legislation. Women must share their shelters with men who are women themselves. This is possible because gender identity laws abolish the gender category and replace it with a gender identity category.

The number of comments censured shows that the LGBT policy followed by the Commission is harmful and destroys freedom of expression. Only partisan and politicised opinions are allowed: it is the end of freedom in the EU.

The Foundation hopes that the European Commission’s forthcoming LGBTQ + strategy will pay particular attention to the most marginalised groups in the community, appointing them and giving them a specific approach. Transgender people and the fight against transphobia, for example, should be given particular attention to the core of the strategy.

The strategy for equality between LGB-TQI persons leads to Queer action plans in Germany, which are completely exaggerated. For lesbian people, the queer dogma is fatal, as heterosexual men who identify themselves as lesbian are now seeking recognition by lesbian as lesbian. Women lose their shelters due to the presence of all-identified men. The strategy is fatal and is completely exaggerated.

The following feedback are related to the implementation of the strategy and highlights pending issues underlying the effort to be mobilised in the second term of implementation. Gap in Knowledge: We can note an increased knowledge in lgbtiq-topics in some part of Europe (at least in Nordic countries), it is more brought up, more visibility. But there is also an increased gap in knowledge among groups.

We strongly support the objectives and actions set out in the Gender Equality Strategy, as increasing the protection and equality of queer people is of the utmost relevance across the EU, especially in view of current political and societal trends. In terms of content, we therefore fully share the ambitions of the strategy. Nevertheless, we would also like to express constructive criticism.

Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals are at a substantially heightened risk for a plethora of poor mental and behavioral health outcomes, including HIV acquisition, depression, anxiety, as well as self-injurious thoughts and behaviors (SITBs; e.g., non-suicidal self-injury, suicidal ideation, suicidal behavior) compared to their cisgender peers (McNeil et al., 2017; Randall et al., 2023).
The European Union is the only major institution able to stop the drift of violence and discrimination against minority communities, not just LGBTQIA +, which is spreading in a number of countries including Italy.

Older LGBTI+ people run the risk of facing the accumulated effects of stigmas and discrimination experienced throughout their lives based on their actual or perceived age (ageism), actual or perceived sexual orientation (homophobia, lesbophobia, biphobia), gender identity or gender expression (transphobia), or sex characteristics (interphobia) .
The impact of the different actions aimed at improving the living conditions of LGBTIQ people under the 2020-2025 equality strategy represents an important step forward for the daily reality people live in vulnerable situations in different countries around the world.

Working space and work should be a safe environment for LGBTI + people and not a place of danger where the only option is invisibility. Slovakia scores long term on the lowest spectrum for LGBTI+ Equality. There was also not even after (almost) 1 year after the terrorist attack a change in the rhetoric of politicians or any increase of acceptance by the public. The EU Resolution condemning the attack was declined by the government.
It is extremely important that the EU, through its bodies, issues guidelines and strategies aimed at protecting fundamental rights and ensuring equal treatment and equality for all people, and specifically addresses issues related to the LGBTIQ+ community. Such documents are much needed in these times to give guidance to national governments and hopefully to inspire EU citizens.

Method. Every quote is verbatim from the organization’s own submission to the European Commission, trimmed to its opening passage and never summarized by a model. Where a submission was filed in another EU language we show the English text the European Commission publishes alongside it, labeled on the quote; the original is one click away at the source. Groupings use the respondent type the organization itself selected when filing. We deliberately do not label anyone “supportive” or “opposed” — you read what they wrote and draw your own conclusion.
