Equinet strongly supports the first-ever LGBTIQ Strategy. It is essential to further protect LGBTIQ+ persons in the EU against discrimination and hatred. With this policy document, the European Commission reaffirmed that equality and human rights are the core values of the European Union while ensuring that LGBTIQ+ persons have better access to healthcare, justice, education and family rights.

Equinet welcomes the Commissions proposals, with some suggestions for improvement On the legal basis, given the complexity of two parallel Directives setting out standards for Equality Bodies, their provisions shall remain identical. Diverging or even contradicting provisions in the two Directives would lead to a confusing and ineffective system and would undermine the desired objectives.
