AGE Platform Europe welcomes the revision of the Victims Rights Directive and its focus on protecting the rights of victims, including improving access to support, information and safety for vulnerable victims, such as older people. We also align ourselves with the detailed comments made by Victim Support Europe.
The Quality Jobs Roadmap must address the challenges of an ageing workforce. As highlighted by the AGE Barometer 2023, older workers face persistent barriers like ageism, limited training access, and unsuitable workplaces. Despite demographic shifts, they remain underrepresented in employment policies, with older womens employment rates as low as 40% in some EU countries.
AGE Platform Europe welcomes the potential of Individual Learning Accounts (ILA's) to strengthen lifelong learning and empower individuals to develop their skills throughout their lives. ILAs must be genuinely inclusive and accessible to people of all ages.
Older LGBTI+ people run the risk of facing the accumulated effects of stigmas and discrimination experienced throughout their lives based on their actual or perceived age (ageism), actual or perceived sexual orientation (homophobia, lesbophobia, biphobia), gender identity or gender expression (transphobia), or sex characteristics (interphobia) .
Better linking and streamlining the social security rights of European citizens is an important area which merits further development. As an organisation of older persons, we can share the following experiences in which mutual and automatic recognition and attribution of social security documents could make an important difference: - Access to health care for citizens in a different EU country than their insurance…
