Dutch Meat Importers Associations feedback Already in 2013 an EU study showed that the standards used measuring the water content of poultry meat were incorrect. The EU importers of poultry meat organized in the UECBV have mentioned this in a letter to the EU Commission. One might expect that once the EU legislation on marketing standards would be changed that this incorrectness would be immediately corrected.

To the EU-Commission - Public Opinion about Marketing standards for poultry It is important to modernize the marketing standards for poultry meat in the European Union to ensure the continuity and effective functioning of the common market organization. The implementation of harmonized, specific marketing standards would greatly benefit industry, trade, controlling authorities, and consumers.

I support the European Commission’s draft delegated act on poultry marketing standards. Indeed, the term ‘open-air’ is a fundamental characteristic of farm poultry with a red label, which is an important guarantee and a reference for the consumer.

We welcome the revision of the marketing standards for poultry products as it is an opportunity to align these standards with the current reality of market and technology. Furthermore, we also welcome the aim of the proposed Delegated Regulation to reinforce sustainability. Promoting animal welfare and the protection of animals, as set out in Art. 13 and Art. 36 TFEU, are the main objectives of label Haltungsform.

UECBV welcomes the revision of the marketing standards for poultry products as it is an opportunity to align these standards with the current reality of market and technology. In this context, UECBV would like to highlight some elements on this draft that need to be revised, in particular the standards on the water content of poultry meat imported from third countries, as this draft does not foresee any changes on…

We do not support the draft implementing act on monitoring frequencies for operators in the sector. Checks on each link in the sector (livestock farming, food manufacturers, hatcheries and slaughterhouses) must be maintained at the frequencies currently defined for several reasons.

Consumers must be familiar with and have guarantees regarding controls in the various parts of the sector. In order not to distort competition, it is also important to have European standards that are binding on all countries so as not to have different applications. It is therefore important to standardise these checks across the various links in the sector.

ERPA disagrees with the proposed deletion of the obligation of specific and independent inspections at all stages of production, with a frequency, in case of indications of the types of farming. These controls are necessary, useful, and important to verify the correct application of the Regulation and therefore to give confidence to consumers.

As regards the implementing act, it is important to maintain the frequencies of the current standards in order to make the system more reliable and secure for consumers. As with EU rules on organic farming, a frequency must be defined in European standards in order to avoid distortions between countries and ensure compliance with the rules laid down in all countries.

Method. Every quote is verbatim from the organization’s own submission to the European Commission, trimmed to its opening passage and never summarized by a model. Where a submission was filed in another EU language we show the English text the European Commission publishes alongside it, labeled on the quote; the original is one click away at the source. Groupings use the respondent type the organization itself selected when filing. We deliberately do not label anyone “supportive” or “opposed” — you read what they wrote and draw your own conclusion. Organizations only, never individuals. Reused under Commission Decision 2011/833/EU; the European Commission is not liable for this reuse.
