Pay transparency is a tool against the gender pay gap, but it is not the final aim and it does not solve the internal causes of the gap. In fact, the underlying cause of the gender pay gap arises from the unequal distribution of unpaid care work. The wage gap between men and women cannot be solved without substantive action on care work, both paid and unpaid, most notably undertaken by mothers.
