We welcome the fact that the EU Commissioner, through the LULUCF Roadmap, intends to take account of current developments in agriculture and forestry. Agriculture and forestry are directly affected by climate change. They are also part of the solution and must therefore play a central role in the future EU climate policy.

We support the general principles of the Aarhus Convention (AC). However, we are critical that the current proposal contains redefinitions and reinterpretations that go well beyond the original scope of the Aarhus Convention. Actions of general scope will in future also be covered by the AC (“acts of general scope”).

Family farms and forests welcome the fact that the European Commission is pursuing ambitious plans for climate protection and biodiversity through the EU Green Deal and related environmental programmes. But both can only be achieved together with agriculture and forestry and the commitment of owners and managers. We are happy to present our vision with a 12-point Green Deal Plan (see uploaded document).
