This roadmap recognises the need for food system transformation to support our planet and our health. Scientific consensus is that a shift towards plant-based foods is required in order to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Empowering consumers for the green transition

BEUC strongly welcomes the announcement that the European Commission will be taking initiatives to empower consumers in the green transition through new information rights, protecting them from misleading practices and strengthening the enforcement of their rights. Such initiatives are urgently needed to allow consumers to play a more important role in achieving the sustainable consumption.

Upfield welcomes the initiative to provide consumers with the information they need to make informed, sustainable choices, including through green claims and environmental product labelling. In order for these claims to be meaningful and promote transparency, they must show comprehensively communicated and absolute emissions values, rather than limiting transparency to comparisons within composition-based food…

BEUC welcomes the proposal on empowering consumers for the green transition in which the Commissions proposed some targeted amendments to the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD) and the Consumer Rights Directive (CRD). However, we still see some need for improvement.
