BEUC welcomes the current initiative from the European Commission to review the Directive on security of network and information systems (NIS Directive). Recent cyberattacks confirmed the need for strong IT security of critical infrastructure. In June 2019, a cyberattack hit four hospitals in Romania. This attack led to a slowing down of admissions, discharges and prescriptions.

BEUC welcomes the possibility to give feedback on the European Commission’s Inception Impact Assessment on “Civil liability – adapting liability rules to the digital age and artificial intelligence”. BEUC recommends a comprehensive upgrade of the EU Product Liability Directive, which was adopted 36 years ago and is therefore no longer adapted to cope with the challenges brought by new technologies.

Huawei welcomes the debate relating to artificial intelligence and the potential update of the relevant legislative framework. We are generally in favour of a stronger harmonization of the liability framework in the EU as it may help to spur investment in AI and improve Europe’s competitiveness in the global market.

BEUC welcomes the foreseen revision of the ITS Directive and joins the Commission in its assessment of the three key problem drivers for the swift deployment of ITS infrastructure. We also fully support the Commission in its intention to make use of a stronger ITS Directive to achieve the European Green Deal objectives.

Huawei welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the Commission's proposal for revision of the ITS Directive. We consider that the EU regulatory framework should be conducive to European competitiveness and foster the development of innovative business models. As such, the participation and added value of different stakeholders, both public and private, should be duly taken into consideration.
