The EU Action Plan for Cardiovascular Health should focus primarily on the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which are responsible for the majority of premature deaths in Europe. The main cause of these diseases is an unhealthy diet, characterised by low nutrient food consumption and excessive consumption of salt, saturated fat, red meat and processed meat.
