The Successful Wildlife Crime Prosecution in Europe (SWIPE) LIFE project welcomes the commitment of the European Commission to revise and improve the EU Action Plan Against Wildlife Trafficking and offers its assistance. Please find attached our feedback.
FACE’s comments We acknowledge that good progress has been made on most of the actions set in the Action Plan as EC’s mid-term progress report has concluded. The EU already has a strong policy and legal framework for preventing and raising awareness for wildlife trafficking. Increasing enforcement and effectiveness of existing policies against wildlife trafficking should be a primary goal of the new Action Plan.

WWF appreciates what has been achieved through the previous Action Plan. It raised the profile of wildlife crime in EU Member States, and led to the adoption of a number of new measures by CITES Parties. It also led to increased funding to combat unsustainable and illegal trade from source countries, and to increased resources for the CITES Secretariat and for the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife…
Dear Committee, Given the reasons outlined in your summary of the current Roadmap (Ref. Ares(2021)6044041 - 05/10/2021) it is not surprising that Wildlife Trafficking still occurs so vividly. Illicit traders seem either driven by a financial incentive or may truly believe their actions support the survival of wildlife by commodifying natural resources from fragmented habitats.
The European Pet Organization (EPO) – representing the voice of the pet sector in Europe- and Ornamental Fish International (OFI) – representing the global aquatic ornamental sector- would like first to thank the European Commission for providing the opportunity to share their respective feedback on the published roadmap for the revision of the EU Action Plan Against Wildlife Trafficking.
Conservation of cultural heritage is threaten by insensitive bio-diversity legislation Special attention should be given by the Commission to ensuring that new measures do not prevent the conservation and exchange of historical worked objects made of, or including elements of, organic materials that fall within the scope of this initiative.
Humane Society International/Europe warmly welcomes the publication of the European Commission’s Roadmap for preventing illegal trade in wildlife. Although we already submitted comments to an earlier version of this Roadmap, we appreciate this opportunity to comment on this initiative once again in the light of more recent developments with regard to wildlife trade.
One Voice is a French animal and environmental protection association approved at national level. It acts in France and the world to respect life in all its forms and denounces animal exploitation and its consequences for biological balances and ecosystems, the individuals concerned, and for humans. For several years, One Voice has been interested in keeping wild animals in circuses in France.

The Sustainable Eel Group (www.sustainableeelgroup.org) is the leading Non-Government Organisation in Europe focused solely on the protection, recovery and sustainable use of the protected European eel. We welcome the European Commission's invitation to provide feedback on their revision of the EU Action Plan to tackle Wildlife Crime.
The Sustainable Eel Group Standard 6.0 is an effective way to counter attack illegal trade in eels. The standard supplies a chain of custody from glass eel fisheries, farming, trade and processing up the end consumer.

The European eel is a threatened species. Despite a CITES listing making it illegal to export eel out of EU. Iligal trade still ocurs. Accoring til the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES) "customs seizures indicate that the illegal export of glass eel could be substantial, potentially exceeding the legal market".
