Residents of the North Netherlands are rightly proud of their villages and cities, the landscape, regional connectedness and identity. Residents like living, living, doing business and working there. At the same time, there are major challenges. The vitality and housing market are under pressure from young people leaving and the disappearance of utilities and public transport; especially in rural areas.

Inhabitants of mountain regions have the privilege to enjoy exceptional natural environments, but are confronted to a number of specific difficulties besides those encountered by many rural areas: due to the topography, the surface available for human activities (settlements and infrastructure) is very limited and accessibility is restricted, impacting economic and social development.
Insofar as reducing physical gaps and bottlenecks along the TEN-T within the 2030 and 2050 completion perspectives is envisaged as one of the options for the revision of the TEN-T guidelines, we draw your attention to the fact that the Transport Protocol of the Alpine Convention has come into force with respect to all Contracting Parties including the EU, but with the exception of Switzerland.
Northern Netherlands welcomes the European Commission’s proposal for the revision of the TEN-T Regulation. We acknowledge the importance of the transition to renewable energy sources such as green hydrogen and the digital transition in transport.
