Directive 94/28/EC sets the zootechnical and genealogical conditions for importing pure-bred animals, semen, ova and embryos from third countries. Member States had to comply by 1 July 1995. Imports must come from approved herd-book authorities and carry pedigree and zootechnical certificates. It covers bovine, porcine, ovine, caprine and equine species.
