Maintaining POSEI support is important for a company such as our small market size, which deals with the existence of extra costs arising from its outermost regions in purchasing raw materials and does not allow for the benefits of economies of scale.

EU support is essential for the regional economy of outermost areas such as the Autonomous Region of Madeira and for the supply of various agricultural inputs and for the production of Madeira wine. Without such support, the cost of the goods would be unbearable for consumers and for the development of agricultural activity.

Maintaining POSEI support is key to addressing the unique challenges faced by the outermost regions such as the island of Madeira. Firstly, Madeira’s insularity and geographical remoteness hampers connectivity and trade with the European continent.

POSEI must remain coupled with production. In French Guiana, it is inefficient because it is not enough to go hand in hand with a reliable investment programme (the administrative delays of the EAFRD fund manager). The financial envelopes of the POSEI no longer take into account the realities of Guyana.

It is essential to strengthen the aid scheme for overruns, particularly as regards plant diversification, but by directing it towards an obligation to join collective structures and by upgrading aid for products with a particular eco-label.

Unequal support from the CAP limits the development of small-scale agriculture in the French outermost regions. This support needs to be redirected, allowing for greater food autonomy, job development and the agro-ecological transition. Community and national aid currently mainly benefits the export sectors (bananas and sugar cane).
