As a chemical Industry with production sites all through Euope, Evonik welcomes the IDAA as an important initiative by the EU to support the transformation. Over the last years the chemical sector has struggled with competitiveness and the additional bureaucratic burdens imposed on energy-intensive companies by the EU and member states.

Evonik welcomes the revision of the Waste Framework Directive to support the EU’s climate and circular economy objectives. The Waste Framework Directive, which is mainly designed for a linear economy, needs to be adapted to the requirements of a circular economy. This requires, inter alia, a fundamental new definition of ‘waste’. What is now regarded as waste must in future be regarded as a raw material.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Evonik welcomes the opportunity given by the European Commission to comment on the revision of Annexes V and VI of the Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001. It follows from the draft Annex V to the Delegated Directive that both typical and default greenhouse gas emissions savings values have been removed for ETBE and TAEE (Part A) and for bio-MTBE (Part B).
