What they argued

Revision of the EIT Regulation and of the Strategic Innovation Agendafiled 15 Sept 2026source

Membership needs a clear and measurable institutional value proposition. The future EIT model should distinguish more clearly between being a member of a KIC and receiving funding for an individual project. This becomes particularly important as KICs move towards greater financial sustainability.

Revision of the EIT Regulation and of the Strategic Innovation Agendafiled 15 Sept 2026source

RIS mainstreaming should be accompanied by measurable safeguards. Moving from dedicated RIS instruments towards mainstreaming can improve the integration of partners from less represented innovation ecosystems into the core activities of KICs. However, mainstreaming should not result in the disappearance of effective capacity-building support for these regions.

Revision of the EIT Regulation and of the Strategic Innovation Agendafiled 15 Sept 2026source

The increasing focus of KICs on market deployment, business creation and financial sustainability is understandable. However, it should not result in universities and research organisations gradually moving from the position of strategic partners towards that of service providers or subcontractors delivering expertise to initiatives designed elsewhere.
