We are a part of the non-ferrous metals industry and our main products are zinc, copper, lead, nickel, gold and silver. Boliden supports the European commission´s increased climate ambition announced in the European Green Deal.

Boliden consider EU ETS to be the key tool for addressing the reduction of CO2-emissions and protect the competitiveness of the energy intensive industries. We believe that an adequate indirect compensation scheme and free allocation are the optimal way to protect our sector from carbon and investment leakage. Therefore we would like to change the current system as little as possible.

Include nickel in CBAM - create European competitiveness As a leading European producer of low-carbon metals, Boliden proposes the inclusion of all intermediate and refined nickelproducts, excluding nickel concentrate, in CBAM. Its critical that the inclusion of nickel into CBAM is extended vertically to finished products.

Boliden supports high ambitions for a sustainable transition to build up a strong industry for electric vehicles in the EU and welcomes the new proposed battery regulation. As one of Europe’s largest producer of essential metals for the green transition, Boliden will have an important role in providing the EU market with copper, nickel, zinc, lead, cobalt and other metals with strategic importance for the EU.

General Due to the recent energy crisis, electricity market prices increased to a level we have never seen before. However, electricity production costs for most of power plants has not increased same phase as the wholesale market price. This situation has shown the weakness of existing market design.
