Summary
GeneratedDirective 96/92/EC set common rules for electricity generation, transmission and distribution, requiring Member States to transpose by 19 February 1999 (Belgium, Greece and Ireland had extra time). It obliges progressive market opening, cutting the eligible-customer threshold from 40 GWh to 20 GWh three years after entry into force and 9 GWh after six.
