Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI) is very pleased to have the opportunity to provide additional feedback to the European Commission at this stage, when the Commission is considering the adoption of a revised targeted Waste Framework Directive, to be presented to the European Parliament and Council.

The European Unions commitment to "Better Regulation" is currently at a crossroads. While the objective of reducing administrative burdens for businesses is a necessary pursuit in an evolving economy, it is our view that the Eighth Omnibus Package represents a troubling and environmentally dangerous shift from simplification toward systematic deregulation.

Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI) welcomes the European Commissions initiative to explore innovative finance mechanisms for biodiversity through the Roadmap towards Nature Credits. The ambition to mobilise private investment for nature restoration and conservation is timely, reflecting the urgent need to address biodiversity loss across the EU.

Vehicle production, use and disposal is associated with negative environmental impacts at every stage, and sometimes with negative social impacts. Tackling the problem of end-of-life vehicle waste is challenging and Zero Waste Alliance Ireland welcomes the effort of the EU Commission to address these issues.

1. ZWAI supports the revision of the WSR rules. We welcome the decision to reduce waste exports from the EU to developing countries. 2. ZWAI supports the assertion that wastes diverted from export can have a positive economic value and reduce dependence on primary raw materials, supporting the change to a more circular economy. 3.

In our submission, we point out that adjusting targets and creating flexibilities in the Climate Policy Framework post 2030 can be interpreted as decreasing regulation and maintaining fossil fuel dependence. In order to achieve an independent and flexible EU we need to break free from the fossil-fuel market and so we can decouple our energy system from crises caused by war and trade disruption. 2.

Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI) would like to highlight our concerns about the true lack of implementation of the Aarhus Regulation and wants to see the full adoption of its provisions an obligation by all actors concerned, especially legislators and authorities.

Zero Waste Alliance Ireland (ZWAI), established in 1999, is a Non-Government Environmental Organisation (eNGO). ZWAI has prepared and submitted to the Irish Government and to State Agencies many policy documents on waste management, and continues to lobby Government on the issue of using resources more sustainably, and on the implementation of the Circular Economy.
