WePlanet supports the European Commission's initiative to establish a European Biotech Act, which is designed to strengthen the EU's biotechnology and biomanufacturing sectors. While we welcome the proposed Biotech Act I, however, given that the primary focus is on health biotechnology, we are concerned that novel foods are excluded from the regulatory sandbox scheme on the grounds of consumer, ethical and cultural…

What they argued
WePlanet welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the Commission's call for evidence on the Biotech Act II and supports its goal of fostering an environment that encourages the growth of industrial biotechnology and biomanufacturing in Europe.
WePlanet welcomes the opportunity to contribute to this call for evidence, and welcomes this implementing act. Regulation (EU) 2026/1388 was adopted because new genomic techniques (NGTs) can help agriculture adapt to climate change, reduce pesticide use, make better use of biomass, and strengthen food security and the EU's food system sovereignty. Whether that potential is realised now depends on implementation.
WePlanet welcomes the EU Commission's initiative to adopt climate targets for 2040 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This is a major opportunity to strengthen Europes energy independence from imported fossil fuels. As highlighted in the Draghi Report and the Clean Industrial Deal, securing energy is crucial: Europes dependence on fossil fuel imports is one of the main causes of high and volatile energy prices.
