Background 1. Refrigerated transport is a fundamental part of the cold chain sector. It is of the utmost importance as it ensures the safe delivery of temperature-controlled products, namely fresh and frozen food, pharma products and vaccines. 2.
Historically, heating and cooling systems in commercial and industrial settings have been looked at and designed as two standalone processes: a boiler plant (producing hot water for sanitary, industrial process and comfort heating) and a chiller plant (producing cold water for sanitary, industrial process and air conditioning) operating independently.
Trane Technologies strongly supports the creation of an EU Data Centre Rating Scheme as a foundational tool for the digital energy transition. We encourage the Commission to pair high ambition with climate specific realism, ensuring that thresholds and expectations reflect the diverse operating conditions across EU climate zones.
While it is recognized that recovery and use of waste heat is referenced in several EU legislations, certain applications for this free energy source continue to be overlooked. Current schemes focus on waste heat recovery in the context of DHC applications which are complex and costly to implement and require considerable infrastructure and municipal planning.
