We thank the European Commission for the opportunity to provide comments to the inception Impact Assessment for the Sustainable Product Initiative. Teknikföretagen welcomes the EU Commission's action plan on circular economy and the initiative on Sustainable Product Initiative as it has the potential to facilitate a functioning market in Europe.
The Association of Swedish Engineering Industries welcomes and supports a global decarbonization. Climate change is a global challenge that must be handled in an international context, and we welcome an EU wide and international collaboration. We also believe that European companies are well positioned to be front runners in the green transition.
Technology companies represent Swedish industry. Together, our 4 300 member companies account for one third of Sweden’s exports. Technology Industries of Sweden welcomes the European Commissions initiative to establish a Digital Product Passport (DPP) Registry as a core element of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). A well-functioning registry is essential for enabling the DPP system in practice.

In Teknikföretagens view both PED and SPVD function well, and the technical requirements are well-established. Therefore, we propose that the technical requirements remain unchanged in the event of a revision. We do however see benefits with better alignment of legal requirements with other product regulations, such as introducing digital product passports for relevant data.
