The Single Use Plastics Directive (Directive (EU) 2019/904) is a central element of the EU framework to address marine litter and reduce the environmental impact of certain plastic products. While the Directive has set an important policy direction, its implementation is still ongoing and its overall effectiveness cannot yet be fully assessed.

Stora Enso appreciates the opportunity to contribute to the European Commissions call for evidence on the Advanced Materials Act. As a company pioneering bio-based solutions for the construction, battery, packaging, and other key sectors, we support efforts to accelerate innovation, scale up and deployment of advanced (including bio based) materials in the EU. Stora Enso welcomes the proposal for a Regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests, as we believe enhancing the availability and quality of data on forests across the EU can be beneficial. If designed right, the new monitoring framework will offer an accurate picture of the state of forests across the EU, and consequently serve as a good basis for fact and science-based decision-making.

Stora Enso welcomes the opportunity to provide our initial views on how to assess the state of forests, how to monitor forests, and how to develop strategic visions. Healthy and resilient forests are crucial for the EU’s transition to a climate-neutral economy and for enhancing biodiversity. They are also the foundation of Stora Enso’s business.

Stora Enso welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Call for Evidence regarding National targets and flexibilities in the EU climate policy framework after 2030 (review). Our recommendations are: 1. Ensure the forest sector is not used to compensate for lack of emissions reductions in other sectors. 2. Create realistic LULUCF trajectories for the forestry sector. 3. Support the multifunctional role of forests. 4.

Stora Enso welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to ensure that the EU Regulation on land use, land use change, and forestry (LULUCF) is fit-for-purpose going forward. Stora Enso welcomes the opportunity to provide input regarding the establishment of LULUCF trajectories for 20262029. We strongly support the EUs climate ambitions and, as a major actor in the European forest sector, are committed to the Science Based Target initiatives (SBTi) 1.5°C pathway. As such, Stora Enso is targeting a 50% absolute reduction in Scope 13 COe emissions by 2030 and reaching net-zero by 2040.
