Every year, public authorities in the EU spend around 14 % of GDP (over EUR 2.4 trillion) on procurement of works, services and goods. The Directives lay down minimum rules on public procurement.

The protection of workers’ interests and rights and orderly competition are essential prerequisites for European integration. The proposal does not meet these fundamental requirements of the European economic order, but does not strike the right balance between innovation and social responsibility.

From the perspective of the ÖGB (Austrian Trade Union Federation), it is highly regrettable that the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) are being revised without substantial evidence that they actually pose an undue burden on companies. The revision process began before many companies had even published their first sustainability reports.
From the ÖGB’s point of view, it is essential that climate policy follows clear predictability and clear intermediate targets for 2040 make an important contribution to this. In this context, companies and employees need to be able to rely on policy objectives in order to be able to make investment decisions, including decisions on their education and training.

Trade union vida welcomes the announced revision of directive 2007/59/EC, since in certain cases it contributes to undermining existing good training programmes, making it more difficult to switch between companies and inviting social dumping on competence standards both at European and national level.
