What they argued

Plants obtained by certain new genomic techniques and their food and feedfiled 12 Oct 2023source

As a plant breeder and farmer, I welcome the Commission’s compromise on the regulation of new genomic techniques (NGTs). It takes into account scientific evidence and recognises the need for a differentiated regulatory approach for organisms from NGTs. In particular, for plants that do not differ from conventionally bred, the current GMO regulation does not constitute an adequate legal framework.

Plants obtained by new genomic techniques: information requirements and verification of category 1 statusfiled 11 Sept 2026source

Solana is a family-owned potato breeding and seed potato business based in Germany. We have been breeding potatoes for over 120 years and sell into more than 50 countries. Potato is tetraploid, highly heterozygous and propagated vegetatively. For a company like ours the question is narrow and practical: can a mid-sized breeder actually assemble the evidence the verification procedure will ask for?
