It is important that the strategy explicitly includes water reservoirs in a Northern European context. Reservoirs used for irrigation during increasingly frequent spring and summer drought periods, driven by climate change, can help maintain high agricultural productivity in those parts of the EU that have the greatest yield potential due to favourable climatic and soil conditions.
