The Sami Climate Council welcomes the fact that the EU’s Arctic policy recognises climate change as a key threat to the Arctic and the particular vulnerability of indigenous peoples to its impacts. However, in the context of policy update, it is important to strengthen the position of the Sami people as indigenous people and rights-holders, not only as a stakeholder or target of policy action.
