HDVs (over 3.5 tonnes carrying goods and passengers) are responsible for 28 % of CO2 emissions from road transport in Europe, although they account for only 2 % of road vehicles. Their share of road transport emissions will increase unless EU regulation is tightened up in the same way as for passenger cars.

Heavy goods vehicles (HDVs) must become zero-emissions and the sale of most diesel trucks and buses must be completed by 2035 if we want to meet the EU’s climate targets. The revision of CO2 emission standards for HDVs is an opportunity to put HDV manufacturers on a reduction path in line with the Green Deal.
