Keeping in mind the European Commissions stated objectives of improving its bioenergy framework and ensuring the predictability and certainty of energy transition pathways, Brazil contributes to the call for evidence by highlighting the following: 1) Energy policies should promote a science-based, technologically neutral, and internationally coherent approach to Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) for sustainable energy.
Regarding the public consultation launched by the European Commission under Article 7 of Regulation (EU) 2025/40, related to methodologies for calculating and verifying recycled content, sustainability criteria for plastic recycling, and conditions for recognizing recycled materials originating from third countries, the initiative is highly relevant.
Compared to the previous EU Arctic Strategy, the situation in the Arctic and beyond has changed significantly. Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, its military capabilities in the High North, as well as the growing interest in the Arctic and its resources from a number of countries including China, underline the urgency of increasing NATOs deterrence and defence in the Arctic.
