The Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) is a European platform of small-scale fishers associations committed to minimising their impact on the environment and maximising the socio-economic benefits they generate. Currently LIFE incorporates 37 associations across 15 Member States, uniting around 10.000 small-scale fishers on the platform.
The Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) is a Europe-wide platform of 40 associated member organisations from 16 EU Member States, from the UK and Norway (18 countries total), incorporating around 10,000 small-scale fishers committed to minimising their impact on the environment and to maximising the societal benefits they generate.
The Commission proposal is disappointing. The question of what to do once stocks are under MSY Btrigger and Blim is unresolved and the proposed amendment leaves us in a worse position than before. The proposal undermines the socioeconomic viability of the fishing industry, in particular the small-scale fleet segment, by removing a key fish stock recovery mechanism.
