The validity of the objectives of Directive 2008/56/EC, in particular the achievement of good environmental status of EU seas and the use of the qualitative descriptors identified, is fully recognised. The need for the plan is not called into question, but rather the method of implementation and, above all, the timetable, which has already been postponed because of the complexity of the objectives.

It is very positive that the Commission pays attention to the complex situation of a sector of fundamental importance for European agricultural economics. However, precisely because of this situation, in order to make the measures more effective, some additional openings should be made.
