The Iren Group highlights the urgent need for a coherent and harmonised European framework to address the crisis currently undermining the recycling sector. Escalating energy costs, competition from virgin and imported materials, and regulatory fragmentation threaten the viability of recycling value chains, with serious implications for Europes industrial competitiveness, resource security, and climate goals.

The IREN Group is currently involved in the ETS mainly through its thermoelectric generation and district heating activities. While reaffirming our support for the Unions climate objectives, we believe that the current revision raises significant concerns in terms of industrial sustainability, proportionality, and the overall coherence of the regulatory framework.

However, we consider it essential that the revision does not apply uniform targets to energy systems, industrial structures, and territorial conditions that differ significantly across the EU.
