What they argued
The Digital Network Act establishes the need to promote sustainable networks and services in order to contribute to the European objectives of carbon neutrality and resilience (Article 3). These environmental objectives, together with the duty to safeguard the interests of EU citizens (Article 3.1.f), are called into question by the planned shutdown of 2G and 3G networks in France between 2026 and 2029.

The Halte association with planned obsolescence (HOP) welcomes the European Commission’s intention to promote a new right to information on the durability and reparability of products and to ban greenwashing and planned obsolescence. However, in terms of concrete proposals, HOP believes that stricter and ambitious rules are needed to prevent practices that shorten the lifespan of devices.
