GRDF welcomes the EC call to identify solutions for an affordable electrification. This will happen if renewable electricity use does not result in much higher energy bills, neither on energy supply nor on energy infrastructures components. Fortunately, renewable electricity, when abundant, goes with low prices, as shown by the increasing number of hours with near-zero prices.

GRDF, the largest French gas DSO, welcomes the ECs consultation on the heating and cooling strategy revision. Indeed, heating and cooling are good means to valorise available renewable electricity when greater than the specific demand. Nevertheless, balancing supply, demand and infrastructure capacity constraints make heating and cooling technically difficult and economically challenging to fully electrify.

The transition away from fossil fuels requires a profound transformation of the energy system to achieve decarbonisation while preserving affordability and security of supply for all consumers.
