As a French region at the heart of Europe, the Grand Est region is crossed by several major European international freight corridors. For this reason, the region is particularly concerned by the potential effects of this revision, which is likely to generate a significant increase in 44-tonne truck and mega-truck traffic on its territory.
The Grand Est region is characterised by the size of its automotive sector, the 1st industrial branch, which accounts for 117 000 jobs in 2300 establishments. The Grand Est accounts for a quarter of French automotive activity in terms of production and export volume.
