The French Federation of Mechanical Engineering Industries would like to submit suggestions regarding the activity 1.2 Manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment and activity 5.1 Repair, refurbishment and remanufacturing.
The French Federation of Mechanical Engineering Industries(FIM) welcomes the Commissions intention to simplify the administrative burden linked to environmental legislation through a dedicated Omnibus package. Companies in the mechanical engineering sector are fully committed to reducing the environmental impacts of their products and processes.
As an association representing a downstream sector, dependent on a stable supply of aluminium and recycled aluminium, FIM considers it important that the European Union intervenes to ensure, in the long term, the availability of sufficient volumes of aluminium scrap on its domestic market.
We identify a risk of double regulation between national measures on circularity and the WEEE Directive, which will soon be revised and is expected to include provisions on critical raw materials. FIM considers that the current requirements ensure the safety of pressure equipment against the potential challenges posed by hydrogen applications or innovative materials. Their possible application for hydrogen applications is achieved in particular through standardisation, which demonstrates that the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive are sufficient and technologically neutral.
