FIA Region I

FIA Region I supports the EUs objective of strengthening industrial competitiveness while accelerating decarbonisation. However, for this to succeed in practice, the transition must remain affordable, accessible, and acceptable to consumers. Industrial policy should therefore be designed in a way that preserves access to mobility, avoids disproportionate cost increases, and maintains consumer choice.

FIA Region I supports the EUs ambition to accelerate the decarbonisation of the transport sector. Corporate fleets, due to their high turnover and influence on the second-hand market, are a logical starting point to scale up zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) deployment. However, measures must be realistic, flexible, and grounded in market conditions to avoid unintended economic and social consequences.

FIA Region I supports the EUs objective of climate neutrality and recognises the central role of renewable energy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors, including transport. The development of a robust renewable energy framework for the period beyond 2030 represents a key opportunity to deliver a successful, consumer-oriented transition.

The FIA European Bureau welcomes the Commissions aim to enhance road safety and environmental performance through the Roadworthiness Package. However, we stress the importance of maintaining affordability, transparency, and fairness for citizens, and considering the self-diagnostic capabilities of modern vehicles as well as their suitability to replace additional tests and measurements.
