The Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF) welcomes the European Commission's initiative to launch a call for evidence and public consultation regarding the forthcoming revision of the European Unions public procurement framework. LRF is a non-partisan interest and business organisation for people and companies in the green industries.

The revision of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 is an important opportunity to introduce targeted improvements. The organic framework plays a valuable role for organic production and consumer confidence, but several rules are overly rigid, create legal uncertainty and impose unnecessary administrative and economic burdens.

The rules for organic production are unfortunately often perceived as difficult to understand, costly to apply, and overly detailed. The proportion of organic laying hens in Sweden has decreased from around 18% to just over 10% in recent years. This proportion will likely further decline when the transition period for organic pullet production ends and the rules on outdoor access for pullets come into force.

The Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF) welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the Call for Evidence and highlights the crucial role of agriculture and forestry in Europes renewable energy transition. Representing 120,000 members and 60,000 enterprises, LRF emphasizes that a secure, competitive and sustainable energy system depends on active engagement from citizens, businesses and all Member States.

The Environmental Omnibus provides an important opportunity to introduce further simplification measures across EU environmental legislation, including in the revised Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). Without additional targeted simplifications, there is a significant risk that the revised framework will impose disproportionate administrative burdens on livestock farming, create legal uncertainty and undermine…

The Federation of Swedish Farmers promote the introduction of remote meat inspection in smaller slaughterhouses and game handling facilities. The Swedish National Food Agency (Livsmedelsverket) has conducted a study showing that this can be implemented without compromising food safety, animal health, or animal welfare.

The Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the proposed development trajectories for Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) up to 2030. As a representative of Swedens farmers and forest owners, LRF supports ambitious EU climate goals but urges that targets and methodologies be realistic, science-based, and supportive of both climate, bioeconomy and rural development.
