Fairtrade Deutschland e.V. welcomes the European Commissions initiative to strengthen farmers positions in the agri-food supply chain. Some key aspects of the proposed regulation have to be revised in order to prevent misuse through insufficient definitions of fair and equitable.
Fairtrade Deutschland welcomes the review of the Directive on unfair trading practices in the agricultural and food supply chain as an opportunity to strengthen an instrument that has already demonstrated its relevance in mitigating the negative effects of power imbalances, but whose potential has not yet been fully realised.
As part of the Omnibus initiative to simplify the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), we call on the European Commission to extend it to the EU Organic Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2018/848), which severely negatively affects small farmers in third countries supplying organic products to the EU.
