The FachverbandToolindustrie e.V. (FWI) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the CBAM methodology in this Call for Evidence. The AMI is the association of tool manufacturers in Germany and is therefore the central representative body for companies in the sector. We support the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) as a means to avoid carbon leakage and ensure fair competition.

The Fachverband Werkzeugindustrie e.V. represents around 150 manufacturers of tools and related products. The majority of enterprises are SMEs. Our member companies support REACh’s objectives, provided that their implementation does not put them at a competitive disadvantage compared to competitors based outside the EU.

Our association represents manufacturers of hand tools, tools for stationary and handheld machines and similar products. In our opinion, it would be desirable to convert the directive into a regulation in order to rule out national differences in implementation in the future (option 3).
