ERT wishes to contribute with initial views about a new corporate legal framework for innovative companies across the EU (the 28th regime) as a contribution to the European Commission’s public consultation. ERT believes that the creation of a 28th regime may address genuine issues faced by businesses – particularly SMEs and scale-ups – which would like to set up and expand operations across the EU Single Market.

The European Round Table for Industry (ERT) strongly supports the objective of revising the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) Set 1 to materially reduce the reporting burden for European companies while addressing the needs of relevant stakeholders. The first two years of ESRS implementation have clearly demonstrated that the current framework is excessively complex and disproportionately granular.
The European Round Table for Industry (ERT) strongly supports the European Commissions efforts to simplify EU legislation with respect to taxes. At a time of slow economic growth and intensifying global competition, the EU must place business competitiveness at the centre of its policy agenda.
The latest call for evidence (June 2022) of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) confirmed that the market of ESG rating providers is very fragmented, with 59 providers being active in the EU. This fragmentation and proliferation results in a significant degree of heterogeneity in practices and methodologies as well as a low degree of comparability.
The European Round Table for Industry (ERT) appreciates the European Commission's initiative to review and recast the Directive on Administrative Cooperation (DAC). We fully endorse the Commissions political objective, outlined in the Long-Term Competitiveness Communication, to reduce administrative burdens associated with reporting requirements by 25%.
ERT is convinced that effective competition law enforcement is critical to ensure open markets, deliver consumer benefits and maintain a fair level-playing field between companies.
